here it is
A Studio clay matcap I made entirely procedurally with GLSL.
I like those hot/cold colors on a white material with a red sss underneath, feels more organic while sculpting.

There are many good matcaps here already, but I made some so I figured I’d share them
This one is designed to be easy on the eyes and and contains a lot of geometric information. which make it ideal for sculpting.

You know, I think we don’t need studio lights anymore.
It resembles too much the old uncustomizable matcaps, I think it can be safely removed!! Matcaps are Waaaaay superior!!
Of course, we must add texture painting support first.
I have slightly increased the contrast to bring up more details.

Anisotropic metal matcap (just because we don’t seem to have anything like it)

Here’s a red car paint matcap that I think works quite well.
Here’s the link to the EXR file:

I made a MatCap based on the default shading.
The goal was to create a MatCap that feels familiar but does not look overexposed and does not have those weird lines.
Since I can upload only one image, here’s an imgur album for better comparison:

Remember that MatCaps are used for hard-surface modeling too – think cars, sci-fi shapes, or generally any sub-d mesh with smooth, flowing, curves/bevels.
For those we need more metallic matcaps, ones that show how reflections flow along the surface. I haven’t had much success myself when trying to replace the gold, silver, and shiny red matcaps we have today that I typically use.
Anyone care to attempt to help with those types? A matcap with straight lines on it (like zebra stripes) would also aide in this type of workflow too: https://developer.blender.org/T52087
Psych, im back. This time I have a Ceramic like matcap. I know its not flashy, or cool. But I honestly believe it will be useful. I mean, its easy on the eyes, shows form well, and just looks nice.
