Blenders compositor is in serious need of a re-architecture. Its literally unusable for anything but the most basic slap comps.
- No caching, each change triggers re-render of the entire graph. This is just terrible.
- No On-screen controls for widgets like transforms.
- No spline/tracker/roto embedded into the compositor viewer, its literally the place your eyes are when you are working. Working on roto-shapes outside of the final comp is just wrong on so many levels.
- No temporal tools (frame offset, frame hold etc)
- Better multichannel workflows.

And maybe then, when all that is done is it even worth discussing bringing it on top of the VSE.
