Blender

Ongoing Work

  • High Prio bugs:
  • Christoph:
    • Christoph’s weekly report
    • #127414: Anim: Merge Animation operator
    • and the corresponding split operator
    • Sybren: can you prioritise the versioning code (to convert all legacy Actions into slotted Actions) before working on the split operator? It’ll likely expose more bugs, and we need time to fix those.
    • Christoph: yes
    • Nathan: please wait until #126559 has landed.
  • Nathan:
    • Nathan’s weekly report
    • Working on strip data storage (#126559). Work is done, now just working on reviewer comments. Expects that the PR will land later today.
    • WARNING: When we land that PR, all existing slotted Actions will lose their animation data. A workaround is to open the blend file with Blender 4.2.1, then save it. This will convert all slotted Actions back to legacy Actions. Note that this will still discard all but the first slot in each Action. To work around that, for now the only possibility is to manually duplicate each multi-slotted Action (once for each slot), then on each Action delete all slots except one.
    • Next is the deletion of strip data.
  • Sybren:

Rik: researching facial rigging

Rik is following a course by a Sony/Dreamworks rigger, working in Maya. More artistic approach to rigging. A similar approach could work for Blender Studio as well, speeding up animation. One of the aspects is that they define vertex groups with specific vertices + a falloff curve & radius (like proportional editing uses). It’s meant for adding facial controls for shapekey blending in specific areas, possibly even as temporary controls for specific shots.

He’s keeping notes, and will explain more later.

Next Meeting

The next meeting will be on Thursday 2024-09-26T16:00:00Z. Again it will be open for everybody who’s interested. The provisionary meeting agenda will be updated before the meeting.
