Since the Last Meeting / Announcements

  • Rigify:
    • Will move from extension to core Blender.
    • Move ‘Add → Armature’ menu into ‘Rigify’ sub-menu.
    • Disabled by default, because of the extra panels it shows in the Armature properties.

Patches: Review & Decision Time

  • #123257: it is not possible to disable the ability to select bones from the properties editor, Pablo Vazquez’s proposal:
    • Add a new panel “Visibility”
    • Invert the “Hide” checkbox to become “Visible”, and move it there from the “Viewport Display” panel.
    • Add dynamic labels so it says “Show In: [ ] Edit Mode” when in Armature Edit mode.
    • Add checkbox for “Selectable”.
    • Sybren’s addition to this: rename the “Viewport Display” panel to just “Viewport”, and put those checkboxes there.
    • Module agrees.

Help Needed

  • Icon design for animation bindings. Can be draft, as the name “binding” is not 100% certain either.
    • MohammadHossein will give it a try.
    • Pierrick will take an hour to come up with some proposals.
    • Sybren will prepare by copying an existing icon, so that there is space + an ID allocated for the new graphics in Blender’s source code.
    • After the meeting, Sybren discussed with Julian Eisel. He suggests to only create the icon in Blender once the design is done, to reduce updates to binary blobs in Blender’s Git repository.

  • Rik: #113927: Rigging: make default rotation mode a preference

Best news I’ve read all week. From an overall animation system point of view, I think it’s important to have a solid and supported ‘auto rigging’ feature built into Blender is a good thing.
