Texturing tools optimization

Hey, how about new layer system with many chanels for texturing mode? with nondestructive editing metods(live effects, masks etc.)
or blender goes to nodes way? i mean we need balance between manual drawing and parametric generation of textures. and it would be nice to optimize the projection of the paint, so that there are no artifacts on the seams, or stretching the texture when the angle of the brush.
