Shapekeys doesn't work together with bevel modifier

I’ve made a mesh with a shapekey, it’s a suction-cup that i’m going to use to lift small flat things off a production line. I would like to use the bevel modifier to make nice highlights in the render, but the second i flip the switch and put the bevel modifier on, the one shapekey i’ve created goes full blast (that means it defaults to the value 1 on the single shapekey i’ve added). It’s also not possible to animate it before the bevel modifier is removed…
