Procedurally converting grease pencil to mesh

I love using grease pencil and normal 3D animation together. However, since the shading used on grease pencil objects are different to the way 3D objects are shaded it often looks out of place.
What I’d love to see is some sort of modifier that can convert grease pencil to a mesh object on the move. Either by converting solid areas to an n-gon and lines to curves, or maybe converting it all to a mesh with line thickness “baked in”.
Either way, I’d be stoked!
