Multi-factor authentication for Blender Extension authors

Dear Blender Extension authors,

We are reaching out to let you know that the extensions platform is introducing MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) for extension authors, starting later this month. This is a security best-practice, which allows to better protect your account in case of a takeover.

Starting later this month, MFA will be required in order to perform the following actions:

  • approving extensions as a moderator
  • uploading files, modifying extension data (name, description, etc)
  • issuing API tokens

Similar position (and a more in-depth explanation) expressed by other platforms:

You can enable MFA by visiting your Blender ID settings: Sign in - Blender ID - blender.org
We have been testing Blender ID MFA internally and now we are starting a gradual rollout with a limited group of users (extension authors).
This feature is not promoted as a general availability yet, and at this moment we don’t actively encourage user enrollment. Please expect more updates on our progress with MFA soon.

Thank you!

It has happened: the MFA requirement is now active on extensions.blender.org for actions mentioned in the first post.
