Locked files (protected from changes) are not marked in the File Browser when you open them. Some kind of indicator would be helpful, like in the Finder, for example.

For a locked image file, the “Save” menu item is not available. But when you press the Alt-S shortcut, there is no notification that the image has not been saved.

The “Save” menu item for the locked .blend file is not grayed out, and gives an error when you click on it. The Ctrl-S shortcut also gives an error message under the cursor, but the status bar says that the file has been saved.

When you save a .blend file with the “Save modified images” option, the locked images will not be saved without any notification and you may lose your work.
