Image preview for shader editor

After reading through the blender development wiki and posting my idea at Image preview for shader editor ⁠— Right-Click Select (, I thought that it was time to open a thread at the devtalk website.

So the compositor has a preview option for their nodes, but in the shader editor we don’t and have to either guess how the material is gonna turn out or somehow wrangle us through with the node wrangler previewer.

So my suggestion is that the shader nodes should also get a preview using some kind of standard object like a plane.

I’m aware that there is a paid addon literally called Node Preview, but I think 35$ is simply too much for something that Blender should come with as default and even has in the compositor

As it says in the header on top of every page, this site is not meant for feature requests. Those should stay on the rightclickselect site.
