Exposing mirror modifier options is using old boolean checkbox instead of buttons 2.90

It think that it’s a bit inconsistent since the new buttons are way nicer, should i report this maybe?

Also, can’t the mirror axis be exposed individually?
In this video the guy is doing that by using specific axis ‘‘use_y" instead of "use_axis’’ but dosen’t seem to be working.

This is just an option for boolean properties. All you have to do is set toggle=True when adding the button.
