XSI Winter Pro

I created this theme giving me a series of goals to reach:

  • 1 I tried to draw inspiration from a series of blender 2.8 themes already created by other authors and that in my opinion are among the most beautiful and functional.
  • 2 I needed to create a dark theme, but at the same time didn’t have the 3D view too dark.
  • 3 coming from very far back in the days when I used Softimage XSI, there were some positive features, at the workflow level I wanted to recreate, and it was the clear distinction between the vertex colors (blue) the edges (yellow) and the faces (red) so I tried to recreate this situation, with some changes second me a little more harmonious, with a desaturation of some colors.
  • 4 try to harmonize all the colors together.
  • 5 work with this theme for about a week, trying to figure out if there were better adaptation changes to be made or small corrections to be made.

this is the result. I hope it’s appreciated.

(new version, dark mesh in edit mode)

edit:
after an intense work of many hours working on a mesh, I decided to darken the mesh in edit mode, consequently: the elements are seen with more contrast and more ease to see and the eyes get less tired.

improved wirframe mesh colors in edit mode after this change:

Better theme support, please

Dear blender,

There are still quite some UI elements un-themeable in blender 2.8x. Posts about this were made here and in the Blender UI Papercut section, but it doesn’t seem to get much attention. I’m sure we all here want to create a perfect theme, so is there any way we can help to get un-themeable elements exposed in the theme editor?

Hi Paul. I keep hearing this suggestion in lots of different places, but I’ve never seen a list of un-theme-able elements along with it. For someone who wants to help fix the situation, it’s hard without a comprehensive list of the problem areas.

Have you seen a list anywhere, or do you have any interest in helping to compile one yourself?

On top of my head.

Dopesheet in grease pencil mode. Can’t find those dark gray bars colors
image

NLA editor. Can’t find those blue/green bars colors.
image

Graph editor. Those “rgb” colors are nowhere to be found.

The playhead text can’t be changed.
image

Image editor. If you click on a image, a black bar with numbers appear at the bottom, we can’t change any of it.

The origin indicator, I’m pretty sure we can’t change those colors.

I’m pretty sure there’s more.

@Harleya I know you like to repair small things, is it a complex job for you to repair these non-themable colors?

Hi HooglyBoogly, That’s great to hear you want to help! I haven’t found a comprehensive list yet, and I would love to help compile and maintain one. What’s the minimal info you need to identify for an un-theme-able element? I’m thinking about [detail-screenshot, logic-name, description].

Thanks ThinkingPolygons! I’m going to put these on ‘the list’. The green text in 3D View could be the 3D View / Object Keyframe color.

guys, let’s do a papercut thread for the themes errors, so we list everything that looks badly managed or is un-themable.
so some dev who want to repair these little mistakes have an easy life.

Hi nokipaike, I’ve set up a topic for the un-theme-able elements. Theme Development Lets post there, I’ll start listing items later today.

Hi everyone,
I made a true black theme for blender, using a modern and flat design with vivid colors, it can be accessed here: Tim Krief / Blender True Black Theme · GitLab

It’s a first draft, it might be rough around the edges. So, if you encounter any issue, please open a ticket or even better, correct it and contribute to the repo.

I used a green / lime accent color, (if you edit the theme to change the accent color, tell me so that I can add it as an option if it’s pretty ).

Here’s a screenshot:

Xsi Midnight

This theme is a very accurate version, it is the result of the experience I gained by going deep with theming settings.
This is the base that will lead to other variations, I think I have fixed all the colors, but in the case I will reload some corrections in the future.
