Hello. I’ve used Blender more than five years and i really like it. Also i’m teaching kids blender now. All that time i’ve told everyone that blender is the best for 3D, much better than autodesk. When max wheights more than 5 GB, blender wheights around 300MB and works faster than max, a thought i can launch blender on my teapot and was proud of that! as everyone here i was waiting for 2.8 since spring, and what i see now? i can’t launch new 2.8 on any my computer! But still can: max 2019, maya 2018, Zbrush 4r7, modo etc. why? becouse of OpenGL 3.3, even my best laptop with core i5 has no GPU which supports OpenGL 3.3. why do you need that? for EEVEE? the funniest thing that I don’t even need EEVEE for using Blender:) I’m disappointed…
so just use blender 2.79 in such case simple. Reason why openGL 3.3 was chosen is because to not support it u have to have really really old computer and any Graphic that cares about his job. have device that is not as old. Also by switching to openGL 3.3 as minimum it allowed blender developers to make many many many amazeing stuff… and not doing this for just little % of users that have super old hardware is just not fair to all users that use blender proffesionally for work. Also u can still use 2.79 just fine until u upgrade your laptop or pc.
it’s not so old, but have intel HD 3000 inside. and of course i don’t mean to interfere other users just becouse of guys like me. but first of all it’s just offensively. would be great if some features don’t work without 3.3 but blender still work. blender will be more universally in that case
new viewport requires 3.3 at it core. + that GPU is like 7 years old…
Hello devv team and members. Is there an option or turnaround to install OpenGL 3.3 on old hardware (have same i5+IntelHD3000 ) ?
might be some virtualization come in hand ?
thanks much and waiting for any possible suggestion ?
Zbrush basically doesn’t use gpu, in the last update added a selection tool based on gpu but besides that the gpu its only there for trowing the picture to the screen, all the processing its done among the HDD CPU and RAM
A simplified version of Eevee its basically the viewport (workbench).
im not a developer but saw in facebook groups and it seems it work (kind of) the opengl .dll can be replace to trick the windows to think that it can run it (google will know more about it), also hear under linux intels HD 3000 with updated drivers that can run open gl 3.3 and run 2.8, but not sure how that was done.
however if the program would open may walk but not sure about “run”.
an acceptable solution would be to make the eevee features disabled for the most obsolete gpu … in order to have more or less the same capabilities as blender 2.79:
workbench for modeling and animation, cycles for rendering…
a blender a little castrated … but better than northing…
guys i have good news for you …
I have a laptop with an old radeon hd 2600 (opengl 3.0)
I tried the latest blender 2.8 build with the linux and last mesa devel 19.1 … and it works! don’t crash anymore, the “solid” mode part is usable, there are some small visual bugs when selecting vertex in edit mode … but hey … all in all for a hardware so old it’s not bad!
eevee … no it is slow, and there are shading problems … but at least the software can be used as you could use blender 2.79 …
the good thing is that there is room for improvement ^ ___ ^
this is the magic of open source … what did not work a few months ago, and there was no hope, magically resurrect …
but next apple laptops will be on apu’s so…
