Meeting Notes

  • Falk: Grease Pencil 3.0 development is going along well. Worked on core DNA structure, conversion from old data, layer groups and more. Development board.
  • Yiming: Was working on the node based design of Line Art. New proposal uses custom attributes set by the user for filtering: Proposal Link.
  • Shen: Showed a demo of using a guide bézier curve to deform a stroke in Ciallo. (Video)
    • Falk: Thinks this is interesting as a tool. Could be implemented in the future.
    • Yiming: Does it work with self overlapping guide curve?
      • Has issues with this currently.
  • Nick F.: Is the plan still to use eevee-next for GP 3.0 rendering?
    • Falk: No, this is not the plan. GP 3.0 will likely use the gpencil-next renderer (currently mostly a port of the old renderer). In order to render shadows for fills the proposed solution is to be able to use Geometry Nodes to convert fills to meshes and then render them using EEVEE and EEVEE materials.
  • Nick A.: When will we be able to play with GP 3.0?
    • Falk: The current development is happening on a branch (grease-pencil-v3) until we have the results of the performance tests. If they fulfill the expectations, development will switch to main and users can start using GP 3.0 (behind experimental flag). This is expected to happen in about 3-4 weeks.
