2.8 Wireframe depth visibility affected by clip start

I usually use clip start at its minimum setting (0.001m) when modeling. I kept having issues with the wireframe in the back showing up, even with x-ray mode off, when modeling in solid mode - it was driving me crazy! I finally noticed that it had to do with the clip start setting. At 0.001 it almost looks like you’re working with x-ray mode turned on. It starts getting better at 0.005, but it works best at 0.01. The problem with this is, if what you’re modeling is small, the clipping will get in the way of you zooming in to work more comfortably. This gets worse when the mesh is more dense, and the wire thickness makes it even worse. Here are a couple of images to show the problem.
