In previous versions you can select individual vertices while in Island UV selection mode
But now you can’t do it with any of selection tools(box, circle, lasso), it selecting whole island now.
Yes, this is more logical but not more usable. More convenient to have ability to select vertices in island mode, no need to jump back and forth.
