Ubuntu 18 Lts: Blender builds successfully but cant open?

I have built a lite version of blender for linux (Ubuntu Desktop 18.04.2 lts) and the terminal message says it was built successfully. When I go to open blender in home/username/blender-git/build_linux_lite/bin/blender I get a message saying; Could not display “blender”. There is no application installed for “shared library” files. Have I done something wrong in the build process? I am new to linux so this is all unfamiliar territory. Thanks in advance!

Hello NickB,

Are you able to run it from the command line? The message might come from your Nautilus (your file manager).

Running it in terminal works. Thanks so much Jeroen! When I open blender via a terminal, does that terminal become blender’s “console”?
