…with some interest. I wonder if anyone knows whether there is an up to date version or if anything has even changed since it was published

That page is still pretty much accurate. There may be some low-level function names that are not exactly replicated in the code, and there are many more bmesh functions than are documented there, but the underlying data structures are exactly as described there.

It can be improved whenever necessary.
