I use “Select More/Less” → “Extend Parent”/“Extend Child” to achieve some of the Select Hierarchy functionality I was used to in Maya! This allows for selecting multiple hierarchies. There are a few extra steps to get to the entire hierarchy, granted, but especially with scripting it gets me everything I need.
