Reply Limits for New Users

I joined the forum specifically to work with some other users on a particular topic. As I continue working on blender source related projects, I’ll likely work on and interact in other topics.

It feels pretty odd to be barred from interacting more than 3 times on a given topic, counter-productive even on bringing new and engaged users into this forum. Is there some obvious workaround for this I’m missing?

Why is this the policy in the first place? I’d assume bot deterrence or similar, but I’d expect bots to be more likely to engage across multiple topics. If it is there to encourage users to engage past a single topic, it feels strange to enshrine that as a hard requirement.

Making this topic post here seems to have resolved my issue for now, so I can move on, but if this is a hard user requirement that forum management intends to keep, maybe adjust the language of the warning/error? As it is now, “temporarily limited” implies the issue is tied to a time-based limit of some kind, and “please consider” + other activities does not make it clear that a new user HAS to do these other activities before the restriction will be limited.

A clear cause and effect dialogue would be a better help to the user, or please just remove the requirement entirely.

This is a standard feature in the forum software used on this site, you can read more on these limitations over at

On top of what @LazyDodo said:
We get a lot of spam accounts. You don’t see them much because they get cleaned up fast, mostly. But it’s tricks like these which help the volunteers manage the onslaught of spammers.

It’s not ideal, but if you don’t get flagged as spam your trust level will rise quickly. And also can be manually raised if really needed.

Thank you both for your responses! It being a stock feature of the forum software makes sense, and I think having a trust system is obviously valuable. I’m glad to hear restrictions like this have helped mods curb bots!

My first move when I hit the block message was to search the forum for any discussion of it (which I didn’t find). So, hopefully if anyone in the future ends up confused like me, they will find this thread here for answers.

You should have received a welcome message when you registered on the forums that had a link to the trust levels page, it’s been a while since i registerd, so if you could check if that’s still the case I’d appreciate it.

I just went back through my email. Aside from the “confirm your email” one, all the correspondence I received were topic alerts (when folks responded) and summaries of forum activity.

When I was promoted a trust level yesterday, that email included a link to the information on trust levels, but as far as I can tell there was no earlier message about them.

It should have been on your inbox on the forums, click on your user icon in the upper right, then click the little envelope twice
