Auto-save render multilayer EXR

Hi people.

Do you know if there is a way to automatically save renders as multilayer EXR?
Maybe there is some limitations in the API?

Open startup file.
Change render output format to desired format.
Save startup file.
Done.

I’m saying that I’m trying to make a script that automatically saves multilayer EXR after I press f12.
