Notes

  • Next meeting January 7. Happy holidays to everyone!
  • Weizhen: the volume patch is ready, needs review
    • Step size is tricky: some scenes are slower, but less biased
    • Need to make a decision on time vs. quality
  • Lukas created feedback thread for the OSL camera patch (custom lens and more!)
  • OptiX issue with steam will be fixed with the new driver release
  • Patrick is looking into trace() calls from OptiX OSL
    • Due to OptiX version it will be easier to implement with newer driver version
  • HIP story:
    • The current HIP fix will land to main
    • Eventually will be ported to 4.2 when we’re certain it does not cause unforeseen issues
    • For 4.4 Windows can switch to ROCm 6
    • For 4.4 Alaska mentioned update to ROCm 6.2
  • Unrelated topics mentioned by Nikita:
    • It is tricky to get list of issues assigned to a specific person
    • it is important to backup keys from the chat.blender.org! Otherwise clearing cache will remove the key, and will make PMs unreadable. And for certain types of issues it might be suggested to clear the cache.

This is a weekly video chat meeting for planning and discussion of Blender rendering development. Any contributor (developer, UI/UX designer, writer, …) working on rendering in Blender is welcome to join and add proposed items to the agenda.

For users and other interested parties, we ask to read the meeting notes instead so that the meeting can remain focused.

Just adding a note here.
I haven’t confirmed it myself, but apparently crashing with GPU rendering also impacts HIP, and apparently Cycles can’t even see oneAPI users GPUs inside Steam.

Assuming these are true, then it would still be great to turn off the Steam runtime container if a option becomes avaliable.
