2023-10-10 Blender Admins Meeting

Attendees

  • Bastien Montagne
  • Brecht Van Lommel
  • Dalai Felinto
  • Campbell Barton
  • Sergey Sharybin
  • Thomas Dinges
  • Fiona Cohen

Notes

  • Handling of high priority reports, the number has been large in the last few weeks (between 20-30 often)
    • metrics.blender.org seems broken at the moment (it reports too many high priority issues) - volunteers are welcome.
    • Suggestion is to take rolling releases more seriously - for example, to not “promise” a feature for specific releases.
    • Encourage developers to look at high priority bug reports.
    • Nothing changes for the triaging team.
  • Code-comments missing information from commit log
    • Problem: Some crucial information about code is only stated in commit message, and not in the code. It will be hard to find it later on.
    • This should be caught by code-review.
    • Everyone should be encouraged to keep this in check.
  • Face maps topic has been discussed again.
    • Still seemed that there are users which rely on the functionality, which is no longer possible.
    • Since it seems to be lost functionality without alternatives, and without really being in a way of other code and functionality we will look into bringing them back until replacement is implemented.
