Notes

  • A topic of the commit message guidelines was brought up. The main aspect being recent changes (period at the end of title) did go via admin meeting. Conclusions:
    • Better to keep guidelines as simple as possible (remove the period restriction rule).
    • The intent needs to be communicated better: not only what, but also why things are enforced.
    • Things that we need reinforced, should be reinforced on the web interface/infrastructure side.
  • The meeting re-confirmed that proper bug report needs to have file needed to reproduce the bug attached to it. This means that we do not accept reports which share those files privately under NDA. The triaging playbook needs to be updated to make it more explicit.
  • A topic of systematic access to Studio Productions repositories for all hired Blender developers was discussed:
    • Meeting agreed that all hired Blender developers should have access to production SVN.
    • Due to time and resources available it is not something that can easily be done remote developers.
    • For the HQ in-house developers a new SVN access rule will be implemented allowing read-only access.
  • Bumping minimum CPU instruction set for 4.0:
    • Suggestion is to support SSE 4.2. It is very unlikely that computers that do not support this will have a GPU that supports OpenGL4.3 (Blender 4.x requirement)
    • Raising the requirement to AVX won’t bring that many immediate benefits and better wait.
    • Raising the requirement to AVX2 is not acceptable as it leaves behind too many artists
  • High-priority issues:
    • Long-standing open high priority bugs are not being prioritized.
    • The agreement of postponing features over bug fixes is not being followed.
    • Action: Remind developers about it, and give space to tackle high-priority bugs
