2023-06-20 VFX & Video

Attendees

  • Brecht Van Lommel
  • Habib Gahbiche
  • Omar Emara
  • Richard Antalik
  • Sergey Sharybin

Notes

  • Compositor: improve edge detection of Kuwahara filter (PR108858)
There are no stoppers, the patch will be merged to the main branch.

  • Compositor: Speedup anisotropic Kuwahara operation (PR108796)
Needs artists feedback on the performance vs. quality difference. The filter is much faster, but edge detection is kind of worse at high zoom levels.

  • Compositor: canvas and transforms (PR108944)
The meeting went into looking into different usecases, cons and pros of different approach. It was very useful conversation, but there is no final decision yet. Some notable topics:

    • Data window: Habib proposed to follow viewport and camera terminology, as it is closer to the rest of the 3D part of Blender.
    • Use “gizmo” to visualize data/view windows, and their orientation.
    • Need to involve technical artists from the module into the design decision
  • Compositor regression testing
The GPU compositor needs to be covered with regression tests. Due to some technical limitations, it will be done an option which developers need to enable locally (similar to the GPU renders),

  • Compositor: add aspect ratio display in node viewer (PR106338)
Seemed that the idea of a node to scale anamorphic footage got a bit misunderstood. Habib will clarify on that.

  • Richard is working on improving retiming tool UI ([PR109044])(#109044 - WIP: VSE: Improve retiming UI - blender - Blender Projects)
