2022-6-1 Sculpt/Texture/Paint Module Meeting

Practical Info

This is a weekly video chat meeting for planning and discussion of development related to the sculpting and painting in Blender. Any contributor (developer, UI/UX designer, writer, …) working on these features in Blender is welcome to join and add proposed items to the agenda.

For users and other interested parties, we ask to read the meeting notes instead so that the meeting can remain focused.

Attendees

  • Jeroen Bakker (dev)
  • Julien Kaspar (artist)

New Tasks

In Review

In Progress

  • :anchor: T96225 PBVH image texture painting implementation
  • :anchor: T98383 Sculpt Mode Cavity Masking
    • No updates yet?
    • Will write Joe after meeting
  • Ramils progress on :anchor: T97959 Color Filter: Sliding UI
    • Ramil should upload the revision so we can look at it closer
  • Julien is working on missing design tasks for Paint Mode:
    • Eraser brush needs to consider pure emisive colors. Needs to be included in the design
    • Projection brush could just ideally be part of the 3D brush as additional settings
      • Conflicting settings can be greyed out like Occlusion
    • Clone brush uses 3D cursor, which causes resetting of target on multiple strokes
      • We need to figure out how a second brush cursor would be better feature
      • It could allow the second cursor to have a constant screen-based distance to the main brush cursor

High Prio Bugs

None. Well done! All good for Blender 3.2 release :+1:

Next To Do’s

  • Jereon:
    • Will continue on UV seam fixing
  • Joe:
    • Split PBVH pixels into more nodes as main task
    • Then cavity masking
    • Low Prio: Rebase D7080, D8069 & D11006 for review
  • Julien:
  • Ramil:
    • Will likely continue with Filter Slider UI
  • Will check with Joe & Ramil after the meeting

Other

  • Ramil should get commit access to commit his own patches once approved

    • This would speed landing fixes and small additions
  • Sculpt Expand has a color mode in the keymap

    • Not mentioned in the release notes or manual
    • But also not directly used or exposed for the user
    • We leave it unmentioned for now, and aim to replace and improve the feature for Paint Mode in upcoming releases
  • We discussed that we should reach out to other devs & artists

    • Right now we are picking our projects very precisely and are stretched thin
    • We should reach out to current community contributors if they are interested in helping out in Paint Mode related tasks and would accept grants
    • Also we need to reach out to more artists to get detailed design feedback
