Since the Last Meeting / Announcements

  • Sybren made a sign-up form for the workshop. Currently requires signing in with a Google account, possibly due to the possibility to upload a video file.
  • Needs clarification it’s also for remote.
  • Maybe separate signup (can be done without Google account) from file submission (needs account).

Workshop Documents

Definition of Success

Last Wednesday we should have come up with a definition of success for the workshop, but didn’t nail one down yet.

  • The Principles
  • Know what we want to have accomplished by the end of 2023 & 2025
    • Concrete list of use cases, expressed as user stories.
    • Preliminary UI mockups of those use cases.
    • Have an idea on how to start working on this.
  • Presentation for the conference ready to practice.

Nathan: there will be an amount of iteration going on after the workshop, so the goals (for 2023/2025) should be clear but not set in concrete. As the system is developed we’ll have to adjust anyway.

Joseph: we should avoid creating a huge list of feature requests. Should aim at getting things workable for the devs we have.

What’s Missing & Blank Slate documents

We should go over these and see what happened since the last meeting.

Sybren tweeted about the Blank Slate document, and it grew to 34 pages!

  • Joseph walks us through his to-be-split-up proposals.
    • Discussion about giving riggers more control over bone coordinate systems (like left-handed vs right-handed).
  • Marc: discusses his idea have Shape-Keys influence bone transforms as well
    • Sybren: asks for more concretely worked-out proposal
    • Jeremy and Joseph want t discuss further with Marc.
  • Sybren mentions RBF Nodes from the “Blank Slate” document.
    • Nathan: looks like something that’s been around: “pose space deformation”
    • Nathan: at Rhythm & Hues they had a system where each bone was double, and the eventual deformation was determined by the difference between those bones.
    • Sybren: that’s kind of animating our edit bones.

Next Meeting

The next regular module meeting would be on 27 October, but it’s cancelled as the Blender Conference will be happening then.

The next meeting will be on Thursday 10 November, 18:00-19 CET (Your local time: 2022-11-10T17:00:00Z). Again it will be open for everybody who’s interested. The provisionary meeting agenda will be linked in the #animation-module channel before the meeting.
