Notes

Cycles

  • HIP integration is currently waiting on the kernel compilation patch. The Linux compiler should arrive by the end of the week. We still need to have a message displayed when HIP is not available. Also RC drivers should be available for Windows in November. (Brian)
  • Christensen-Burley SSS has been restored in Cycles 3.0. There are also additional fixes for Fresnel reflection and retro-reflection which are closer to the original paper now. Still need to add an option for the SSS node. (Brecht)
  • Work is under way to improve the performance of transparent hair shadows using baking. (Brecht)
  • Also in progress are further improvements the the new SSS to make it a better replacement for Christensen-Burley SSS. (Brecht)
  • Patch for PMJ sampling combined with scrambling distance in progress here. Some slow down was noticed probably due to the need for a second sampler needed for decorrelation. (William)
  • Removing ray offsetting still in progress trying to mitigate the speed impact of the changes. (William)
  • Ray differential changes may have resulted in a loss of detail in displacement geometry. Would it be possible to have changes as a compile time option? Agree to make this a bug so as to work on it further.

Will the ubuntu version be able to add the hip option this week? Will the driver for windows system be in 21.11.1 or 21.11.2? :star_struck:

The second week is almost over and linux still doesn’t see the hip option.

The HIP code has been committed to cycles and the latest builds should have HIP support. You’ll have to check with AMD about what cards are supported also you need to install ROCm you can find some details here about installing it.

I amd which brothers do not get angry, amd very lazy, hip/rocm to be on windows including rdna2 gpu support This forum is the only source of information.
Anywhere else rdna series still does not support rocm, rocm is still exclusive to linux

This is not correct, the builds do not include HIP binaries and there are no Windows drivers available yet. This is not ready for user testing, when it is we’ll make a dedicated topic for user feedback and add more details in the release notes and documentation.

Some good news. blender 3.0 Linux build e79e86018e38 has HIP in the System > Devices.

Although I get no Compatible GPUs found, RX 580 AMD Drivers

Try to re-install the amd closed source driver, if not there is no independent installation of rocm method, linux performance is good, not highly educated I have a headache on his command to install the driver, not very suitable for most ordinary people

Installing closed source drivers will not help, no point trying random things until we have a build that actually has HIP binaries along with an explanation of supported GPUs and docs.

As Brecht said. Please be patient. There might be something enabled in the UI, but won’t be turned on for most users yet.
