  • Playback and scrubbing performance is sub-optimal

Francecso described issues with performance on sample 2K movie file, I was able to reproduce these issues with file encoded with Blender and H.264 template.
My conclusion was that these issues are not exclusive to video sequencer but rather ffmpeg implementation in Blender.

Proposed solutions

  • Find problems in ffmpeg usage and try to resolve these This can be part of T70529.
  • Use proxies by default, because some files are not encoded for good scrubbing performance. Further steps are defined in T85469
