Opening browser via Help menu takes a long time

System details below. Opening Safari via the links in the Help menu takes over 10 seconds and show a beachball. At first, I thought this was about “Report a bug” which might be collecting system information, but clicking “Manual” also shows the same.

Exact observations:

  • Blender has focus, click Help menu, click Manual.
  • Safari takes focus immediately but shows the spinning pinwheel.
  • After a long time, it switches to the window, often on another desktop and opens a new tab.

Is it a known/ reproducible issue? Should I file a bug report?

I’m on an older Blender build (from December 17th), but here at least I don’t see any lag for opening a web page. I have Firefox as my default, and it is already running. I’ll test latest too.

edit: with the build of today and all browser applications closed completely it takes around 5 secons to start FireFox, but no beachball in my browser.

I’m on Catalina btw (MacOS 10.15.2, kernel Darwin 19.2.0).

Okay, I think it has been isolated as follows:

  • delay in both Safari, Firefox, or any other default browser.

  • Beachball and longer delay in both browsers, if they are not on the same desktop as Blender.
