so basically i hate this and its why i haven’t switched to 2,8, is there ANY way to get rid of it?

You can change it like any other key in preferences if you like.

Default:
Z --> Shading pie like you see above
Shift-Z --> Wireframe toggle (like before)

Personally, I’ve switched those 2 key combinations around. Under 3D View -> 3D View (Global) you should find the “Z” and “Shift Z” button mappings if you scroll down a bit; flip them around etc.
