In edit mode (vertex select), CTRL+click don’t create points anymore.
Is it overide by the left click feature ?
Is it possible to make it work again as in 2.79 ? Useful to create on the fly through a free gesture.
Yes and no. It could be problematic to keep it with left click if user confuses left click with left click & drag.
So, to be sure to avoid confusion Ctrl Left click was change to Ctrl Right click in default keymap.
But it is still Ctrl Left click and working with left click for active tool if you use Blender 2.7x keymap.

I did try right click but it didn’t work with a tablet, i retried slowly and it works.
