Blender 2.8 released on void linux has weird error

Hi,
I am on void linux (a rolling release like arch) and recently they upgraded blender to 2.80 en python to 3.8. Now the error is weird. The Subdivision Surface modifier does not work. I mean, there are zero errors and the modifier is added to the stack, but no surface is actually subdiv’ed. The default cube stays a cube. Other modifiers like solidify and wireframe work as expected.

I posted a new issue to the void-packages github, but I was hoping the blender devs could point to what might create such a weird error ?

thx, s.

Subdivision is depended on the OpenSubdiv library, if you build with it disabled (or it disables it self when it can’t find it at build time) you’ll get this behavior.
