- Expose options as inputs:
- Omar is moving ahead and making good progress. Once all nodes are done, we will do another pass with artists to see if more changes are needed.
- Simplifying the compositor workflow:
- Reusable node trees is in review. Removing “Use Nodes” patch will be ready for review once 138560 is merged.
- Assets for the compositor: We will start defining assets next. Implementing an asset shelf for the node editor is not blocking.
- Viewport compositor:
There are 3 remaining topics to make the viewport compositor feature complete (see also the new column “Viewport compositor” in the roadmap)- Cycles render passes support:
The render module is willing to help - View Layers support:
Would certainly be nice, but priority is not clear because it requires a lot of effort to implement and at the same time, many things can be achieved without using view layers - Canvas and display windows:

Still seems to be an issue for some users. Discussed performance of animation playback vs. tweaking values.
We need sample files with problematic performance issues to investigate further. - Improve node searching:
After #138581, enums inside nodes can be searched. Simon suggested we go through all nodes and see which options should be exposed, e.g. options inside the Blur and Filter nodes should appear in the search menu as well. Habib will follow up on the topic - Forward Compatibility:
Node systems built in 4.5 and imported in 4.2 don’t work but there were no warnings or visual indication that the file was broken. We agreed we should backport a warning that shows unsupported nodes as red. - GPU precision: Simon built a node setup that that only behaves correctly with full precision enabled. A suggestion was to move precision settings to node groups instead of it being a global toggle. This doesn’t fit into the current design, but the problem will be investigated further.

This is a forthlightly video chat meeting for planning and discussion of the Compositor in Blender. Any contributor (developer, UI/UX designer, writer, …) working in this area in Blender is welcome to join and add proposed items to the agenda.
